WHAT TO EXPECT

Here’s what you can expect during your first visit:

Pelvic Health Physio Mandurah Consultation
Pelvic Health Physio Mandurah Pelvic Floor

Step 1: Comprehensive Assessment

Your initial visit will begin with a comprehensive assessment where we’ll take time to carefully review your medical history and any symptoms you may be experiencing.

These initial consultations typically last about 60 minutes because we believe in discussing all aspects of your condition to gain a thorough understanding.

No symptom is too small to mention—it all helps us form a complete picture.

Step 2: Pelvic Health Assessment

During your assessment, we may perform various evaluations to understand your pelvic health. This could include assessing your range of motion, strength, coordination, and checking for areas of pain or discomfort.

If necessary, we may conduct an internal vaginal examination to assess your pelvic organ position, muscle strength, and the coordination and endurance of your pelvic floor. However, we want to emphasize that this examination is completely optional.

If you're uncomfortable with this, we can use alternative methods such as Real-Time Ultrasound and visual inspections to assess your pelvic health.

Your comfort and consent are our top priorities, and we’re here to make sure you feel supported throughout the process.

Step 3: Education + Personalised Treatment Plan

Once we’ve gathered all the necessary information, your physiotherapist will explain the findings in detail. We want you to feel fully informed about what's happening in your body and why. Together, we will discuss your treatment options and create a plan tailored specifically to your needs and goals.

Your personalized treatment plan may include pelvic floor exercises, muscle strengthening, relaxation techniques, bladder and bowel training, targeted rehabilitation exercises, and a home management plan to support your ongoing recovery and health. We’re here to guide you every step of the way, so you feel empowered and supported in your journey to better pelvic health.

What to Expect at Your Initial Consultation

At Pelvic Health Physio Mandurah, we aim to make you feel as comfortable and at ease as possible throughout your pelvic health journey.

We understand that pelvic health issues can feel personal, and we strive to take the awkwardness out of the process so you can focus on your well-being.

Your initial consultation is the first step toward understanding your body and working toward your health goals.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Pelvic floor physiotherapy can help if you're experiencing any of the following symptoms:

    • Urinary, wind, or stool leakage when coughing, sneezing, exercising, or at any other time—whether it’s small, moderate, or large, and whether it happens consistently or just occasionally.

    • Urgency or frequent trips to the toilet, feeling you might not make it in time, or leaking when rushing to the toilet.

    • Pain with bladder filling or emptying.

    • Heaviness or dragging in your pelvis, vagina, or anus.

    • A sensation of “something down there,” like a lump when washing yourself.

    • Decreased sensation during intercourse.

    • Pain with intercourse, inserting tampons, or during a pelvic exam.

    • Post-birth recovery, whether vaginal or via caesarean. A pelvic floor check can ensure your body is healing well and address any issues before they become problems.

    • Pelvic or abdominal surgery, and you want to prevent further or recurrent issues.

Should you have answered "yes" to any of these questions, pelvic floor physiotherapy could be the solution you’re looking for. These are not issues you need to live with, and we’re here to help!

After the first appointment, you’ll have a clearer picture of your personalised treatment plan and what to expect moving forward.

  • No, you don’t! While a vaginal assessment can offer helpful insights, it’s entirely your choice. We’ll explain the potential benefits and alternatives during your appointment, so you can make an informed decision that feels right for you.

  • Yes, you can! We’re happy to see you during your period. However, if you're uncomfortable with it, feel free to contact us to reschedule. If you tend to experience more symptoms during or before your period, this might actually be the best time for an assessment!

  • Yes! A pelvic health physiotherapist is a great support during pregnancy and the postnatal period. We provide specialised support for birth preparation, recovery, and general pelvic health. Learn more about pregnancy services here. (Link to pregnancy services )

  • No, you don’t need a referral to see us.

However, if you've seen a specialist such as a gynecologist, it’s helpful to bring any relevant information or reports with you to your appointment.

If you are eligible for Medicare (EPC), a GP referral will be required to claim benefits under these programs.

You don’t need to be a Nest patient to access our services—anyone, including those under the care of different doctors or midwives outside the Nest, is welcome to come.

  • Unfortunately, we do not offer bulk billing. As a private physiotherapy service, all services are charged on a fee-for-service basis.

    Prices:

    • 60-minute session: $180

    • 45-minute session: $140

    • 30-minute session: $95

We can assist with claiming health fund rebates or Medicare if you're eligible for an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan.

Medicare rebate for an EPC plan is $60.35. After the rebate, the session fees are as follows:

    • 60-minute session: $180 - $60.35 = $119.65

    • 45-minute session: $140 - $60.35 = $79.65

    • 30-minute session: $95 - $60.35 = $34.65

Please feel free to contact us for more information about the EPC plan or our services.

  • Feel free to wear whatever is most comfortable for you. We provide towels and drapes to ensure you remain comfortable during your appointment.

  • Yes, we are a baby-friendly clinic! You’re welcome to bring your children with you.
